Manitoba historian and genealogist Nelson Gerrard specializes in the Icelandic immigrant experience in North America, with an emphasis on genealogy and pioneer era photography. Working from home base at Eyrarbakki (near Hnausa) on Lake Winnipeg, he has also assisted at the Icelandic Emigration Centre at Hofsós, Iceland, for the last 10 summers. Author of Icelandic River Saga and The Icelandic Heritage, he is currently compiling Gimlunga Saga, a history of Gimli, and Silent Flashes, a book examining Icelandic pioneer photography. Exhibits include Yukonfarar, highlighting Icelandic participation in the Klondike Gold Rush, and historical photo exhibit Silent Flashes at Hofsós, Iceland.
