Jón Atli Jónasson was born in Reykjavik in 1972. He is a playwright and novelist. His plays, which include Surf, Rambo 7, Ghost Train, The 100 Year House, have been shown at The National Theatre in Iceland, Reykjavik City Theatre and at Vesturport. His plays have also been shown in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Russia. He is one of the founders of Mindgroup, a Scandinavian collective of writers and directors that work in the realm of experimental theatre.
He received the Mask Award for Playwright of the year in 2004 for Surf, and was nominated for the Nordic Drama award 2006. He was screenwriter for the successful Icelandic feature film Eleven Men Out. Undercurrents, a film adaptation of Surf, recently completed principal photography.
