Canadian clarinettist Catherine Wood has performed and taught throughout Canada, the USA, Taiwan, China, Italy and France. Catherine is on faculty at Brandon University and performs with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. She has been a guest artist and lecturer at many festivals including the University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, the ICA ClarinetFests and the MSU Clarinet Festivals. A sought-after adjudicator, Wood has served on competition juries throughout Canada and the United States. In 2011, she was invited to China to adjudicate for the first International Mozart Clarinet Competition at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music (where she heard seventy performances of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in one day!). She was also one of the adjudicators for the 2014 ICA Young Artist Competition in Louisiana and the 2015 YAC in Madrid. An enthusiast of new music, Dr. Wood has commissioned and premiered many works; recent commissions include Manitoban composers Sid Robinovitch, Jeff Presslaff, Ken Nichols and T. Patrick Carrabre. She has performed at numerous festivals that celebrate new music, including the Dark Music Days Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland. Her teachers have included Caroline Hartig, Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, David Etheridge, Naoum Gomon, Charles Neidich, Peter Jenkin, Colin Lawson and Theodore Oien.
