The sixth annual núna (now) festival emphasizes collaboration between Icelandic and Canadian artists
Call it the little festival that could.
Now in its sixth year, núna (now) — an annual multi-disciplinary festival dedicated to Icelandic and Canadian arts — continues to break new artistic ground thanks to a small-but-dedicated curatorial team that includes actor/director Arne MacPherson, video artist Erika MacPherson, intermedia artist/choreographer Freya Björg Olafson, Weakerthans frontman John K. Samson, singer Tristin Tergesen and filmmaker Caelum Vatnsdal.
“It really is a labour of love,” MacPherson says. “Atli Ásmundsson, the Consul General of Iceland in Manitoba, had this dream of a festival that would unite Icelandic and Canadian artists. He had this vision of cross-Atlantic pollination. To see that dream realized in such a tangible way is incredible.”
