June 17 brings the Icelandic Independence day of course, and as was the case last year, núna (now) will be presenting an evening of Icelandic Vaudeville at the Muriel Richardson Auditorium in the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The eclectic program will include music and performances of all types, and begins at 8pm, after the traditional festivities taking place at the nearby Legislative Building grounds.

The real merriment begins after the ceremony, in the Muriel Richardson Auditorium in  the nearby Winnipeg Art Gallery. A cabaret-style program featuring music, dance, film and more, carefully curated by the Núna (now) committee, will unfold before you. There is no better way to celebrate that hallowed day than with núna (now) and the rest of the Icelandic-Canadian community!

June 17 is an important day to Icelanders, and therefore to Icelandic Canadians as well. It is the birthday of Jon Sigurdsson, the Father of Icelandic Independence, and the occasion is celebrated with speeches and salutes at the base of the Jon Sigurdsson statue near the north-east corner of the Legislative Building grounds in Winnipeg. Artists programmed last year: Last year artists were Zach Allard, WD Valgardson, Kathleen Hiley and Victoria Sparks.
