Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson

Kippi Kaninus is the alter ego of Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson, musician, visual artist and funeral singer. Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson holds a masters degree in sound and visual arts at The Royal Conservatory at The Hague in The Netherlands.  He has participated in many group shows and happenings in the Netherlands and showed his work in the biennale of Carrara in Italy.  As a singer he has sung with numerous choirs in Iceland as well as appearing as as soloist.  He sang on Bjork´s album Medulla and participated in Odin´s Raven Magic which the band Sigur Rós composed and toured with them to Norway and France. He has worked under the name Kippi Kaninus for the last seven years and made electronic music. As such he has performed worldwide and done shows and opened for bands, such as amiina, múm and album leaf.

Kippi Kaninus came into being in 2001, with his home made release “Afternoon Coffee Classical Music” and following that , “Huggun” was released in 2002 by Kitchen Motors record label. Since then he has released two albums, the latest being “Happens secretly”, 2005. Kippi has opened for and played with amongst others, mum, Kira Kira, Mugison and Amina. His music can also be heard in the movies, Niceland by Friðrik Þór and Voksne Mennesker by Dagur Kári.

Currently he works with Borgar Magnason, double bass player, Steintryggur, experimental percussive audio mayhem. Parabolur, a perfomance based percussion project using discarded shields for telecommunication antennas. He is also a member of amiina.
